What should I do in college to prepare to be a financial advisor?-I am about to go into my sophomore year in college and feel being a Financial Advisor would be a good career for me. Maybe at Edward Jones to get away from corporate life. My question is what should I do to prepare myself for it? I know there a training programs but I would like to go in with some knowledge. Also what looks good on your resume for it? I will be a peer financial counselor at my K-state and I am a business ambassodor for the college of Business at K-state. Should I try to take an exan liek series 7? Any other advice would be very helpful. Thanks
What should I do in college to prepare to be a financial advisor?-best thing you can do is change your major the healthcare, because there isnt really jobs in all that like the school has you thinking. I have a bach in accounting, insurance, finance, and held a series 7, and a real estate license, and never could get a real job with that. Now i major in nursing, many of my friends have got jobs right out of school with nursing, but i only one or two that got jobs with business degrees, and those didnt pay all that well.
If you do stll chose to pursue this, keep in mind they are not going to hire you due to advanced knowledge of stockes, etc,, they will be looking for salesmanship and good looks,, so focus on that alot. I would just one book on each type of investment and leave it at that, and focus more on retirement plans. But like i said,, sales sales sales,, thats what it is all about, you may want to join a ton of clubs to have contacts.
What should I do in college to prepare to be a financial advisor?- Start by doing an internship through your college, take courses like Finance, Accounting and related courses. Join a finance club to get an idea of the career to want to pursue. Also keep yourself involved in extra curricular activities; that impresses employers.
